Music Together is an internationally recognized
early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers,
kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. First offered to the
public in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based,
developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that
strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.
Music Together classes are based on the recognition
that all children are musical. All children can learn to sing in tune,
keep a beat, and participate with confidence in the music of our
culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning. Families get a new songbook, 2 CD's of songs, chants, tonal & rhythm patterns, each semester, and a parent guide detailing the current research!
Imagine a class for you and your infant, toddler, or preschooler
where there are wonderful sounds, interesting movements, instruments to
play, other children to watch, silly things to laugh at, an inviting
teacher to follow, and music your child will love! The instruction is
informal; and the unique learning style of each child is embraced. Our
teachers are fabulous muscians, playing either guitar or keyboard in
class, so that the children get the benefit of seeing a positive role
model and are often inspired to play an instrument themselves. This
helps children realize that music doesn't just come from a CD..people
MAKE it! This program is based on early childhood development research,
and is designed to allow your child to flourish!
Our classes are known
to be just as much fun for the parents! Parents' active participation
is essential in class, and each week they discover fun ways to play
musically with their child. Our experienced teachers share their
expertise each week through education moments when they share
information about the latest research on music development in children.
Class activities stimulate learning at home through play, where parents
can continue to encourage their child's music development through
listening to the CD, and making music with their child. Parents look
forward to our jam session each week when we play along to various
styles of world music. We play along to jazz, blues, funk, zydeco, ska,
bossanova, samba and salsa, featuring music from India, Africa, Italy,
Greece, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and America, just to name a few! Musical
exchange is encouraged, and parents are invited to bring in music they
enjoy at home in to be used in class. Our classes are a also a great
way to meet other families in the community!
